About Guydeatory
Guydeatory explains how things work, one question at a time, starting from the very beginning — for curious kids and the grown-ups who read with them.
What is this?
Guydeatory is a library of explanations. Every question — how does electric current work?, how can a heat pump warm a house in winter? — gets its own article. Each article starts from the very beginning, so you never need to know anything before you start reading.
Who is it for?
Kids from about eight years old who read on their own, and every grown-up who is curious too. The main text of every article is written so that a child can follow it. Extra details for grown-ups wait in “Go deeper” boxes that you can open whenever you like.
How the articles work
- The short answer comes first. Then the article builds the idea up, one small step at a time.
- Highlighted words are doors. When an article uses an idea that needs its own explanation, that word is highlighted. Tap it to open the explanation. “Your path” at the top of the page keeps every step, so you can always walk back.
- Try it yourself. Many articles have diagrams and small experiments you can play with right on the page.
Kinds of explanation
Every article is labelled with the kind of explanation it gives: Big picture, Under the hood, Numbers & formulas, Fun facts and History. On the Explore page you can choose which kinds you want to see.
Languages
Everything is written in English and in Slovak. More languages can join later.
Privacy
No ads, no accounts, no tracking. The site remembers only three small things, and only in your own browser: the language you chose, whether you like the pages light or dark, and “Your path” — the articles you followed, which is forgotten as soon as you close the tab.
Is it correct?
The explanations are simplified, but they should never be wrong. When a comparison is not the whole truth, the article says so — usually in a “Go deeper” box. The sources behind facts and numbers are listed at the end of each article.
